26 :: French Vessel (ca. 1800)

This triple-decked vessel is probably of the third, or even of the second rank, with a displacement of 1500–1700 tonnes.

In spite of a remarkable balance in shapes, she displays a complex rigging, implying complex manoeuvres. Looking closely at her armament, at naval strategies of the time, at life on board, one sees that she already bears witness to a fragile balance, calling on much expertise and many skills.

Building these ships and their evolutions demanded a huge scale of material and human resources. And what can be said of the requirements to represent them as Lecouvie did?
